New Comcast Technology Solutions™ Division Unites the Broadcast Expertise of Comcast Wholesale™ with the Digital Technologies of thePlatform® and THIS TECHNOLOGY™ to Power Every Screen

Comcast Technology Solutions Selected to Provide Multiscreen Platform for Time Inc.’s People/Entertainment Weekly Network

Denver, CO, October 19, 2016 – Comcast Technology Solutions, a new division of Comcast Cable, was unveiled today. The division unites three of Comcast’s media and technology businesses (Comcast Wholesale, thePlatform and THIS TECHNOLOGY) to marry the quality of broadcast delivery with the dynamic flexibility of digital distribution on every screen. Led by Matt McConnell, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Comcast Technology Solutions was recently tapped to power Time Inc.’s new People/Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN) across multiple platforms.

“Comcast Technology Solutions is at the nexus of broadcast and IP convergence. By bringing our technologies together, we provide the greatest breadth and depth of media distribution, management and monetization solutions in the industry,” said McConnell. “We are thrilled to bring this expertise to People/Entertainment Weekly Network, which delivers an extraordinary entertainment experience for every screen.”

Launched on September 14, 2016, PEN is a groundbreaking, free, advertising supported network featuring original daily live programming plus an extensive on demand catalog. The service is delivered as an “always on” experience meaning when viewers access PEN they are instantly immersed in streaming programming in the same manner as tuning in to a broadcast or cable channel. Programming features exclusive celebrity interviews, pop culture coverage, and documentaries from People, Entertainment Weekly and fellow Time Inc. Brands.  Comcast Technology Solutions enabled the new platform with a complete portfolio of broadcast and digital solutions, including the mpx advanced monetization and commerce engine and Comcast’s purpose-built infrastructure. These capabilities allow People/Entertainment Weekly Network to deliver high quality entertainment across a wide range of media devices and operating systems.

To provide Time with a unique experience, Comcast Technology Solutions partnered with Perfect Sense Digital to create the user interface (UI), visual design and front-end development using the Brightspot user experience platform.

“Comcast Technology Solutions was the ideal solution for People/Entertainment Weekly Network,” said Brandon Fong, Vice President, Video, Business Development. “Along with Perfect Sense Digital, they helped us create the kind of superior experience that we want to have associated with powerhouse brands like People and Entertainment Weekly. We couldn’t be happier with the process, the technology or the end result.”

Born in broadcast and proven in digital, Comcast Technology Solutions brings together the quality of broadcast delivery with the dynamic flexibility of digital distribution. The new division’s vast technology and business toolset spans the ecosystem to meet customers’ business requirements in a multiplatform world, without a one-size fits all approach.
